Remarks by Ambassador HE Mr Atul Malhari Gotsurve on the occasion of the Opening of the Indian Art and Craft – Sankriti Exhibition

Respected Director Ms. P Baigal, Zanabazar Museum and Ms. P. Battsogt, Chairwoman of the State Deputy Cultural Ambassador Foundation Ambassadors and members of diplomatic corps, senior government officers, distinguished guests from Mongolia and India. I am happy to be present here for the inauguration of the Indian Art and Craft Exhibition to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between India and Mongolia. India and Mongolia are strategic partners, spiritual brothers and third neighbours. Our friendship is rooted deeply through linkages of Buddhism over hundreds of years.

India Mongolia bilateral ties stand on the pillars of 4 Ds i.e. Democracy, Dharma (Religion), Development Partnership & Digital Development. The trajectory of our relations took momentous turn after the visit of Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi in May 2015 when several MoUs for cooperation in various sectors were signed. The bilateral friendly relations are multifaceted.

This year 2025, marks the celebration of the 70th year of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between India and Mongolia. India was one of the first countries outside the communist block to recognise Mongolia. India also played an important role in the entry of Mongolia into the United Nation. The 70th anniversary celebrations involve several mutually agreed initiatives and programmes. This beautiful Exhibition is part of the important programmes of the celebrations.

I have always believed that relationships between two countries are not built by governments alone. People's participation is crucial in strengthening these relationships. The people to people contact between the two countries is contributing immensely to the strengthening of the bilateral relations. This exhibition will further strengthen people-to-people connect.

I am happy to see the enthusiasm towards Indian history and culture here. Art and culture know no language or barriers. We see glimpses of several Indian cultural aspects in the Mongolian traditions. This exhibition will act as a good platform to showcase the Indian Art and handicraft to our beloved Mongolian friends. I take this opportunity to thank the Zanabazar Museum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the Ministry of Culture of Mongolia, Embassy of India officials and State Deputy Cultural Ambassador Foundation of Mongolia for successfully organising a huge and beautiful exhibition. I am confident that this exhibition will help to further strengthen the bilateral relations between India and Mongolia.

Thankyou/ bayallala
